10 Ways to Deal with Negativity on Social Media

There is so many social media apps now that gives people more opportunities to be rude and mean on the internet. There are many blogs that gives you advice on dealing with it. This post is for equestrians, to help you deal with ways to deal with negativity.

In this day in age, many people have a lot of opinions, and some can be very harsh, but also some can be very helpful.

Here are 10 ways to deal with negativity on social media:

  • 1) You can turn off your notification or your phone and put it down.

Your phone needs a little break too…

  • 2) Take a few mental health days if you are getting too overwhelmed and upset. Spend some time with your horse, on the ground. You can look at my post How to Deal with a Frustrating Ride you can do some suggestions in there.
  • 3) Stay positive.

This one is the hardest. It’s always helpful to look back at the memories of what you accomplished with your horse. Even if it’s something very simple, like a smooth transition or standing at the mounting block. Some of what others find simple, may be harder for you. That’s okay. Make a goal that is realistic to accomplish that day and accomplish it.

  • 4) Take the day off from the barn and have you day. Hangout and cuddle with another animal if you have one at home, dog or cat (depending on if they will let you).
  • 5) Take the comments and spin them in a positive way. Maybe make a game out of it.

  • 6) Share the comments, the comments on your site and what you’re going through. You probably aren’t alone. Some people may help by reaching out and giving you suggestions.

  • 7) Make homemade cake or treats for your horse.

  • 8) Have a pizza and move night with your barn community.

  • 9) Ask advice from your trainer.

  • 10) Talk to your parents, friends, or family about what is going on and how it’s making you upset.

*Remember, whatever you are doing with your equine is fantastic and keep going, no matter what anybody else thinks.
